WASHINGTON - Blackwater Worldwide repaired and repainted its trucks immediately after a deadly September shooting in Baghdad, making it difficult to determine whether enemy gunfire provoked the attack, according to people familiar with the government's investigation of the incident.
Damage to the vehicles in the convoy has been held up by Blackwater as proof that its security guards were defending themselves against an insurgent ambush when they fired into a busy intersection, leaving 17 Iraqi civilians dead.(snip)
The repairs essentially destroyed evidence that Justice Department investigators hoped to examine in a criminal case that has drawn worldwide attention. The Sept. 16 shooting has strained U.S. relations with the Iraqi government, which wants Blackwater expelled from the country. It also has become a flash point in the debate over whether contractors are immune from legal consequences for their actions in a war zone.
Nobody accountable for anything. Ever.
Assuming this article is true, this vehicle repair strategy, in as much as it seems to imply a defense for their actions, is not correctly portrayed as such.
I can think of ten good resons why this immediate repair may occur, and none have to do with coverring-up their actions.
You will have to take their word for it that they were targeted and that they are under a gag order anyway.
Nonetheless, this is a very tough job, and it should be treated as fundamental that you be somewhat tough and good at it. In my opinion, they were shot at, or fired upon, or whatever clever shiboleth one wants to apply. It is a tough scarey job, so go figure.
I agree there is no end in sight the more you learn about Bush and the scope of his criminality the sicker it makes you not only are they lining their pockets ie Halliburton but they are creating private armies that have no oversight. I cannot understand the lack of outrage on our part as a people...they tried to impeach Clinton for having oral sex but Bush has committed every crime possible as a president and no one is saying a word. I am of the opinion that ALL politicians are criminals to varied degrees Bush should be impeached but no one in congress has the morals to start the process that lets you know how corrupt our govt really is.
